Indonesia’s role in the world development: Creating partnership in a globalized world

The 2017 Indonesia Focus Conference welcomes any research findings and important ideas related to our theme; Indonesia’s role in the world development: Creating partnership in a globalized world.

This year’s conference takes the issue of development to a more global level based on our understanding that any development initiative might involve neighboring countries. In the case of Indonesia, recent development within the Indonesia government helped focus the President’s interest to develop eastern areas of the archipelago that is rich with natural sources. Partnering with Japan, the government expected that developing the region could help boost the fund for development around the country.

Amidst the strong effort in the world development, challenges emerged from various sectors. Within political arena, for example, the 2017 political situation has been affected to some degree by social media in the form of circulation of fake news and increased involvement of community journalism involving Indonesians around the world. Such popularity of social media pushed all members in the society, including the government, to identify the key purposes of media today. In terms of infrastructure development, existing problems such as lack of business competitiveness, a high degree of injustice and high cost of logistic continue to become a stumbling block are among the reasons why the World Economic Forum has ranked Indonesia 62nd out of 140 economies in terms of infrastructure development for the last two years.

The outlook of Indonesia for 2017 appears more encouraging, commodity prices (especially coal and crude palm oil) have been climbing, and household consumption is strengthening. Meanwhile, the 13 economic policy packages boost direct investment. In addition, the government’s tax amnesty program will consolidate government’s tax income for its infrastructure and local business development across the regions programs.

The IF-2017 conference aims to bring together creative ideas and initiatives from the perspectives of social, political, economic, business, education, culture, health and human services, religions, science and engineering. This conference also provides the interdisciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, issues, concerns, challenges and solutions within the topics of world development. In particular, we are interested in both academic and industrial research findings as well as innovative technical designs and reports on undergoing projects in Indonesia. The committee also welcomes novel curriculum, creative teaching method’s involving active learning and hands-on pedagogy for elementary, middle, and high schools in Indonesia. Research performed in remote areas and under-developed regions are welcome. The committee will also encourage any findings, researches, or new ideas in the area of religion for world peace that steam from long practice of Indonesia peaceful religious interactions. Discussion and research are expected to produce ideas, suggestions, and recommendations for the Indonesia ‘role in world development”.
